Allowing affiliates to track referrals

what program do you use? free?

I'm thinking of encouraging people to try to send us visitors for a certain event we're having... how can I let them know how many visitors they're sending to us?
like a simple way for them to track a code, etc?

Is there a free program/website out there that would allow it? I've heard of commission junction, linkshare, etc. but we don't need to pay them just track them for a contest... thanks

i would suggest checking some of the open source script sites for affiliate tracking scripts such as hotscripts, sourceforge, freshmeat.
