Hey,

I am building an affiliate site, and want to get into adsense. Is it ok to build the site first, put up affiliate links, and then send in an application for adsense?

So basically is it ok for an affiliate site to get into adsense?

Thanks,

C.K.

Zan:

As far as I know, AdSense is allowed on affiliate websites so long as there is no competing contextually targeted advertising present on the page (i.e. Kanoodle/Industrybrains/Overture, etc). Go right ahead and apply, as an affiliate page designer myself, I find the ancilliary revenue from AdSense quite welcome.

Hey,

Thanks. Would shopping.com not be allowed on my site with adsense?

Zan:

I BELIVE that shopping.com would be allowed on the site, I'm not sure though. If shopping.com lets you choose the products you put in the ads (a la the amazon link builder), then you should be OK. I must admit I'm not familiar enough with the system to know for sure.

The only way I believe you'd run into a problem is if the shopping.com ads automatically chose products based on the content of the page (i.e. contextually based). If this is the case, you can run these kinds of ads on pages where AdSense is NOT present, but not on pages where it is present; meaning that you'd have to choose one or the other.

If you do use it, I'd appreciate hearing how it does. I've been considering adding it to my site, but I'm not sure how the profits would breakdown. Send me an email in a while letting me know how it works out if you start using it.

As an aside, you might want to ask this question in the AdSense forum, there are great people in there (like AdSense Advisor) that can answer your question better than I can.
