selling ad space on site

hi.

i have just set up a community website for my city and wanted to know how i go about selling the top banner space on the site.

i understand i can give over this space to an ad company and they will beam in ads of their choice and suitable to the site (eg, phone company ads).

do you know how you get paid. i understand it is something to do with page impressions. i am based in the UK.

you might get paid on impressions or clicks, or if it is an affiliate program on how many people buy after following the link. The best thing to do is research the companies you are interested in working with and talk to them about their payment models.
