someone wants to have banners on my site.

after a hour searching I got this together:
cpm*(pageviews/1.000)= amount in dollars

cpm=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_per_mille

this is based on a 125x125 banner in a sidebar.

The client wants to place banners for SEO-software. My site is visited mainly by webdevelopers and webmasters.

How much CPM should I ask?
How much for a 468x60 in the header?
how much for 250x250 at footer?

One method:
Find out what adsense makes per thousand page views on the same page using channels, and charge a bit more than that.

Another method:
Find out what competitive sites charge.

thanks.

adsense gives me 19 cents. But because my visitors are the exact profile of the people that would click through, I think I can charge a lot more.

can find out what others are asking. How could I possibly find a similar website, with a simular product advertised.

I think I can charge a lot more.

I think you can't. Adsense is a good measure for traffic value.

You can/should charge a bit more because you will work a little more (control, invoices, check payments and so on) but, please, do not fall into the "pride trap". It's a good strategy to diversify your sources of income and you will increase your chance of success if you do not overcharge the advertisers for the value you think your traffic has.

I could be the richest man of the world if a could buy the traffic in the price it has and sell it in the price most webmasters ask for.

Why not sign up as an affiliate? You can get a big percentage on sales. Its a bit confusing in the beginning, but once you get the idea, you can enhance your earnings

In my years of online media buying, I've seen people try to sell me ad space for up to £25 CPM (actually, sometimes more). Those were all very well known brands, though and they were trying to appeal to oldschool marketers who wanted branding value.

When buying from networks, I think £1-£2 CPM is standard for bulk buying, but if someone has approached you personally, you can charge more than this as your traffic is quite targeted.
