Affiliate merchants - can you post their details?

Hi,

I was told about this site to find great information for my affiliate site. It's been great use so far but I cannot find an answer to my question.

I am signed up with several affiliates for the appropriate category I promote. I have reviews and information about the merchants on my site, but am wondering if I can post their contact or store addresses etc on my site legally, or do I need to contact them first?

A second question on copyright, is can I copy and paste their description of prooducts onto my site and then add my own opinion in a following paragraph, or am I not allowed to use the information they've provided for their products?

Sorry for the blunt introduction.

Thanks,

Gary

Welcome to the Forum!

If you have to ask that question you probably know the answer already - but, I'm happy to confirm that for you. :-)

Not being party to the terms and conditions of your agreement, how should I or any one else know? The best advice is to see the previous reply!

Sorry that my replies are as vague as they are, but so are your questions. If your generalised questions are based on specifics then you need proper legal counsel. If that's not the case can you be more specific?

Do the sites offer an affiliate product feed? If so you can safely republish the contents of that feed. Otherwise you need to abide by the terms of each individual affiliate site. Most allow you to do whatever is neccessary to land a sale however a growing number do not want you copying anything verbatim. Best to ask them in advance.

If you get the info from the merchant, than what is the problem?

With all due respect, I wish people wouldn't write things like the above. It just encourages a number of people to go and do things that will get them in trouble.

I have reviews and information about the merchants on my site, but am wondering if I can post their contact or store addresses etc on my site...

If you're an affiliate for a company selling a product, you want visitors to your site to purchase those products through your affiliate links. You don't want to give them the direct contact information for the merchant as your visitors will use that to make purchases and you won't earn a penny.

Exactly. It is kind of like, "What's missing from this picture..." ;)

Most that I have seen put strong restrictions on things like bidding on the brand name on AdWords.
