I have a questions for those of you with affiliate sites. The company I work for currently have 2 ways of tracking sales, the first is where we track the start of the sales journey, so whoever saw that customer first is credited with the sale. We currently operate this way with all of our affiliates.

The second is where whoever gets the sale from the customer, no matter how many other marketing streams that customer has touched, gets the credit for the sale.

The problem we are having is that we have some marketing streams that require us to track in the second way, and this is causing us to track duplicate sales, and pay for those sales twice.

So is there any reason why you, as an affiliate would be unhappy to track using the second methodology? I'm trying to get an overall idea here so I can take the correct information to the people who impliment the tracking.

Thanks.

The middleway would be to credit the first to hand the customer to you, provided it was within X days/hours before the sale.

Or half the credit for exposing you brandname (the first hit ever) and half the credit for making the sale (or 20/80 or whatever split).

Basically you get too choose who you want as affiliates, and how they will work with you.
