Recruiting Good Affiliates

I've just joined an affiliate network. But after that how does one recruit good affiliates ?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld azure. The first place to start would be direct competitors affiliates, and those who have products that are similar to yours and would compliment the affiliates site.

Thanks. What you say makes sense. I am a newbie at this. How does one find out a competitors affiliates ? And how does one identify affiliates with complementary sites - I mean I can find out a lot of sites that would be complimentary to my site and services, but they would not necessarily be working as affiliates. Would they ? Have i to keep trying to contact these to find out ? Tried just one without success.

And how should i find affiliates that would be relevant to my site and services ?
