Commission % based on sales per site.

...not overall publisher performance

I just found out that my one of my better performing affiliate programs bases their commission structure on sales per site and not overall performance. As I have a lot of little sites, that together do, in my opinion quite good, this really hurts me.

Does any one know if this is standard operating procedure? I affiliate with a few different affiliate networks and this seems to be one of the few that makes me apply to programs site by site. Thanks.

I think that's unusual. Amazon lets you have one account for multiple or many websites.

If you are making good sale then email them asking to increase your commission. If they said NO then find their compeititor affiliate program and promote it.

Soon your old company will contact you to cut a new deal :)

Dinkar I like your thinking! But the company in question I believe doesn't care about me. With sales in the billions they really can't care if I leave them or not. The one I should go after is the affiliate network. But even there I'm guessing one reason they got the contract was because of commission % being based on sales per site and not overall sales.
As I said before this is one of the reasons I won’t being leaving my day job anytime soon.

Can you set up a redirect for the click so all the traffic passes through one domain?
Might help? :)

Yes, I thought about that! But if I get found out then I loose what I'm making now.

Very odd affiliate scheme!

Perhaps its time to consider whether multiple little sites is still the way to go, or if it would be better to 301 them into one larger site?
Don't know the niche, obviously, so just a thought :)

Strange, I've never heard of this before and from an accouting perspective, it makes it more difficult for the program to have to find and calculate all of your various sites. If you can find a competitor that pays the same or more, test them and switch.

I am working in affiliate marketing and also found it very strange. My company and main competitors all offer the commission based on sales of the whole account (doesn't matter how many websites you have in an account). If you can tell what industry you are working on, I probably can recommend something.

Leadegroot: I thought about running all clicks through one site, but figured that if I got caught that would be the end of things. I’m making money just not as much as I believe I should

eljefe3: There really isn’t a competitor that I’ve been able to affiliate with. It’s a national airline and everyone from the country I’m targeting knows this airline. I’ve tried other airlines and a few general booking sites and it just don’t work as well.

Thowang: I also find it strange. My feeling is that this is done to pay less to affiliates, plane and simple. But that’s just the way it, is nothing I can do about it other than dropping the program. But that means loosing income.
The industry is tickets sales directed at Brits traveling to Europe. I’m sure you can all guess the airline now ;).
