Maybe this is the place --

I need to get some ballpark guidance on pricing retail ads.

As in $ per xx views, clickthroughs, purchases.

I can get more specific but I am at this point simply trying to find the right place to raise the question.

Are you buying or selling this advertising?

Is it on a retail site or are you trying to drive traffic to a retail site?

Sorry -- selling. This is a site not up yet. It will be selling retail ads for placement on the site -- a site specifically for viewing ads -- and guaranteeing a readership for them.

Thanks, S

Well there are a lot of variables that would go into your pricing:

1. Demographics of your visitors
2. Breadth of your traffic
3. Visul appeal of site
4. Types of ads
etc.

In the beginning you may be better suited being a part of a network.

OK I can be quite specific and what I am looking for is basically what we can say to any advertiser in any category regarding pricing -- prices.

1. Demographics of your visitors -- our members currently 17,000 plus.

2. Breadth of your traffic -- Membership is global and all ages above 18.

3. Visual appeal of site -- I am hopeful but very much open to suggestion as to what works and what does not work.

4. Types of ads. I assume that some will have readymade ads, some may want to play their TV commercials to our members online, I guess the answer is all types or at least a variety.

We're already an established berson to person advertising business -- now moving to become also a business that works for retail advertisers seekine our business.

Just bumping this up to see if others have any input. Is this an area where knowledge is kept close to the vest? All I am looking for is ballpark ad rates to charge retail marketers who want their ads to appear on a new and as yet unlaunched website devoted to displaying such ads.

Steve:

your description of the site sounds a little like some form of pay-to-surf or direct marketing initiative.

Are you thinking of charging on a CPM or CPC or CPA fashion?

It's not "my" site but one that the business I am in is creating and no it is not pts or ptr.

Something new. Untried. Just attempting to see what one rates one could offer to retail advertisers who are earning money and motivated to buy.

Since posting this I have come up with some ballpark figures based on TV ad rates I was able to find.

If it is new and untried would love to see it when it is launched.

Drop me a line when you launch.
