How can I roughly calculate earning based on traffic?

Hi all

If I have 1 million visits/day, 40% from US, 40% from Europe, mixture of teens / adults (which I can specifically target).

How much approx I can I earn from monetizing this space?
1. With Adsense?
2. Selling this media?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments!

I don't think you can even guess.

There are too many variables:

niche
quality of site (therefore likelihood of conversions)
page design (affects adsense in a big way)
level of competition
quality of competition
etc., etc.

selling the site will additionally depend on actual versus potential audience / conversions / income /ROI etc., etc.

So the answer you seek has to be "it all depends!"

Thanks Q

Niche: music, movies resources.
Quality - same as IMDB.COM, for example.
High competition (but how it should affect?)

In how much CPM (apporx :) will I be able to sell my media?

I'd appreciate even a general, vague answer. Just to get the feeling.

I cannot guestimate - maybe someone form your niche will see this.

There's only so many people out there who want the info. Many will have IMDB (or another) bookmarked, or (like me) will type (eg) [Julianne Moore imdb] or [Julianne Moore wiki]

That reduces the potential audience for you before you start, and your site's place in SE rankings, will, of course make a huge difference, unless your brand is of 'type in' quality, like imdb.

There are also millions of specialist sites competing for your target audience.

So your ability to monetise will be a combination of bounce rate / serps / return rate / brand ... and more.

One million visitors a day sounds a great audience to have ... but what is that audience costing you before you start?

The best way to get your answer would probably be to add some Adsense; that will give you a baseline from which to build and experiment. The site must be a fair size to accommodate one million visits per day (unique visitors, not 'hits'?), giving you room to try more than one approach.

Thanks Q

Yes, my question was about one million visits per day (which is about 4 times in pages views).
Ofcourse this is an astronomical amount of traffic, which I can only dream of having right now.
Once things will be clearer I will come back with more questions, I believe :)

Much appreciated
