I just use plain old HTML to open my affiliate links 'target=blank' into new windows and never considered these new windows to be classed as pop ups because no sneaky scripting is used!
Does anyone else open their affiliate links this way? I am guessing my only choice is to open in same window but I am reluctant to do this as I have seen a steady increase in revenue over the years and consider the 'not broken don't fix' as an important rule to follow.
The links actually go to another page on my site thanking the visitor and informing them the merchant site is loading (done with a meta redirect...)
Any advice would be great!
And as your revenue is OK, I'm sure there isn't a problem ... for now.
As pop-up defences do change, it's something you'll always need to keep an eye on.
As a pop-up hater, I'd always prefer a site where new windows didn't open, but I don't claim to speak for the world, and I am a believer in 'if it ain't broke ...'. But if the signs look bad for new windows, then consider a limited experiemnt, maybe for a week (or some of the links?), and see how clicks and revenue are affected.
