In the process of reviewing the application for many affiliate programs, I've found that most of them want you to already have a site up and running. How would you go about joining such a program with a brand new site?

The first step in the affiliate marketing game is to decide what interests you and create a site around that interest. The days of making any money from a site with a bunch of banners and text links are long gone.

That said, 80% of affiliate programs are set to automatically approve new affiliates so if you at the very least have a site that is parked, then you are good to go. You just kinda need to play with it.

The other side of the coin is the programs that don’t auto-approve. For the most part, you’ll find that the better programs don’t auto approve because they’ve got live bodies looking at your site. These live bodies also tend to care about your success and the success of their program. They’ll provide the support you need when stuff goes awry or you need something… And trust me, when stuff breaks or you need something, a live body beats an auto responder any day.

So going back to my original point – find a niche you care about, develop some solid foundational content with the ability to place affiliate links and then apply to the affiliate programs.
