Is it OK to use a modified version of a banner and host the image from your own site, as opposed to using the ones supplied by CJ?

Check your ToS, and failing that, ask the merchant directly.

With CJ it's ultimately up to the merchants -- they may boot you per your TOS. With our program, we don't care so long as you let us know. We frequenly create custom creative and content for our affiliates so we the company maintain our branding and affiliates get what they want...
