Affiliate sales going off the charts since Dec 28

Typical for this time of year.

December wasn't that great, at least it wasn't the sales explosion that all the holiday hype led me to believe but since then, sales are absolutely booming.

Does January tend to be one of the best months?

Depends on your category. Anything related to New Year's resolutions is going to be hot. Weight loss, budgeting, stop smoking, etc. Are you doing one of these seasonal categories?

Here is a real life analogy/oxymoron. I went to the gym today and it was packed. I couldn't find a treadmill anywhere. Tonight I took my kids to Baskin Robbins for ice cream and it looked like a ghost town.

Nope, pretty much all indulgence categories, not food but stuff people might buy with Christmas cash. Dating sites are ablaze too.

Offline sales here in Australia are absolutely massive in January. I wasn't in the affiliate game last Jan, so I'm yet to see how it translates to the online world. :)

yah, dating traffic is historically amazing this time of year.

overall, january is my best month of the year or top 3 always. Just the fact that it is A) winter (folks are inside) and B) the holidays are finally out of the way, prolly account for a great deal of this.

People depressed over the lonely holiday and not wanting to be without a date on Valentine's Day.

On one of the sites I consult for, they don't see sales until January. They actually do very little in December. They say that it's because their customers spend their Christmas money with them getting all the things they didn't get for xmas.

I think that more and more, sale will shift that way. We no longer live in a society that waits for what they want. I have several couple friends who said that they really didn't have that much to get for each other for xmas b/c their significant other always buys what they want throughout the year anyway, so there is nothing really left to get them come xmas.

Plus, gift giving is shifting in a big way towards gift certificates and cards. Now that you can give pre-paid "credit cards" people are even more able to buy what ever they want after the holidays.

For my site, January is a busy time, as people have more available time to research--family obligations are done, and they aren't yet involved with outdoor activities. Should be about as good for sales as Dec., and the activity won't drop off till March some time.

I have done an unusual number of exercise bikes over the last few days. Bet they're the same people going to mfishy's dating sites. :)
