Uses for mailing lists?

Following advice somewhere else, I set up a 'sign up for our free newsletter' because 'collecting emails is a good thing'. Now I have about 300 people who signed up for it, but I have no idea how to put up a 'newsletter' or what it should have. Help?

As your site deals with product reviews, why not
aa) send out reviews via email newsletter with affiliate link included or
bb) send out a notification to your list that new reviews for product x or y or z are available at your site

There's some free mail manager programs out there. You could blast a brief email to your subscribers saying "come see our latest reviews on..." Goal is to drive people back to your site, yah?
