Organic Conversion vs. Pay Per Click Conversion

Which campaign performs better for you?

I do a combination of PPC advertising and SEO. I track my PPC campaigns down to the keyword, but I find it much harder to track sales from organic traffic.

With the recent shake up in the Google and Yahoo SERPs my conversions have dropped considerably. Organic traffic has always converted better for me than paid.

What is your experience with conversion from PPC, or any paid medium vs. organic search results?

I have my own theories about why organic converts better for me than paid, but I would love to hear your personal experiences.

Just because it converts better doesn't mean you'll earn more from it. You might convert 20%, but if you only get 100 visitors a month...

PPC is there to drive traffic. Lots of it. But of course that comes at a price.

So that's the trade-off. More margin, or more volume.
