Whether you are a super affiliate lounging in your bathrobe or the part timer putting in the hours after your "DAY JOB"-

What attracts you to a program or affiliate directory?

After following a few false inside tips and being convinced by sales hype and propaganda I am trying to work out how the rest of you select.

It's simple if you belong to a network like CJ. You look at how man bars the advertiser has. 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest. This indicates where they rank in terms of commission payout within the network. Additionally, you can check the EPC of the advertiser. This stands for earnings per 100 clicks. The higher the number the better.

These are the only numbers I fully trust because they are managed by a third party. Companies that run in-house programs can come up with their own performance metrics to inflate the performance of the program.

- % commission (or flat rate)
- reputation of program / site (googling it or just rwading up in the forums)

after i join, other factors become key for me to decide if i am sticking with it
- conversion rate
- payments due being made on time
- affiliate manager / contact responds to queries/problems quickly

Have a look at where they rank in the PPC search engines. If the advertiser can't convert google adwords traffic I would not expect them to convert for my affiliate traffic
