hello all,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I have a dilemma. I am trying to create a social networking website for my community. I do not expect to have more than 5,000 - 6,000 members, and probably would think that 1,000 of them would visit the site per day.

What kind of ad revenue am i looking at? what kind of advertising agency should i look for, and what should i expect to pay for hosting charges?

I thank you all very much for any answers, or pointers. I am not afraid to do research, just please point the way.

also, what if these numbers are higher than i expect. say, 10,000-15,000 members and say 5,000 members daily logging in? Would this be considered a large size?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

>>What kind of ad revenue am i looking at?
Probably not very much based on your projected numbers.

Don't think you should look for any advertising agency, but you should test out various solutions to see which brings you in the most revenue. As far as hosting solutions, with your projected numbers a shared hosting solution will be just fine, then as your traffic grows you could always upgrade.

From your questions is appears that you are relatively new to the web, so you might want to have a look and fire some qestions off in our " new to the web" forum [webmasterworld.com...]

Thank you for the reply. I will check out the link and see if there are any questions there.

also, if you don't mind me picking your brain for a couple other things.

1. what would be the best way to get add revenue from a social networking website?
2. What if the number of members is 30,000-40,000 and about 5,000-6,000 are active everyday? Would that be somewhat good? would google adsense be a good idea at that point? Would the hosting situation change at that point?

Thank you again in advance

When I was a newbie I have that kind of very high expectations. But now, when I'm in the internet for many years only one thing is the most important thing.......how to get lots of visitors or traffic. You should not worry how many traffic you can handle.......what you should worry is how to get that kind of traffic. Good luck! I hope you will be lucky in your venture.
