I run a webcomic site and make around 4-5 million impressions per month. In my best month ever, advertising netted me about $900. How can I improve this?

What do you currently use?

AdSense?
Banners?
Affiliate advertising?

Have you tried affiliate marketing for selling things related to comedy such as movies, dvd's and the like? Have you tried to strike up private advertising deals? Are you using contextual advertising to generate ads that have any decent click value?

You should look at questionable content, he always produces t-shirts that depict certain jokes or scenes within his comic.

Since you are running the show, you could survey your users and ask them which shirts they would be interested in, then find out how many people would order the winning designs, then take pre-orders to pay for the out-of-pocket expenses on the order.

Is there any webcomic author forums that talk about monetization? If so I would check those out and read what others are doing and how they have struggled or succeeded.
