I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a CPC or CPA program which does not require you to paste any code on your site other then a destination url link for a text ad or uploaded image file with destination url for a image ad. I can understand why CPM could not work this way as I'm pretty sure there is no way to track page impressions that way but CPC ads can have somthing in the url link associated with your account to track clicks or actions right?

Nope. You need the code to call the ad server and deliver and track the ads. Basically, what you are asking is kind of like trying to drive a car with no gas.

Unless I've misunderstood what you are asking for, then the answer is yes. All CPA programs on Commission Junction (just one example) work like this - you can link any text or image on your own site to the merchant site using the link which CJ provides.

As Ronin notes, although some affiliate networks provide a "tracking pixel" code and encourage affiliates to use it, most networks and merchants permit affiliates to post regular HTML links without any tracking codes. The result makes some reporting look bizarre (for example, there may be reports that show "clickthrough rate" which will show either 100% or 0%, if no "impressions" have been counted).

Of course, if you're going to load the "creative" (ad banner or text ads) from the advertising network's or merchant's server, then you can't get around having your impressions tracked by the network or merchant. Thus, systems like Google AdSense will always have full traffic information for all pages where an AdSense ad is displayed (though you can choose to rotate ads from several sources so that none of your advertisers has a "complete picture" of your traffic).

I know that ShareASale makes the extra effort to provide "the shortest URL possible" as one option, using one-letter abbreviations for parameters; I'm pretty sure that ShareASale doesn't use tracking pixels at all (they actually create huge extra server load at substantial cost, with very little benefit).

I don't think I've included tracking pixels in any of my affiliate links, on any sites, for at least 5 years, perhaps longer; I still get paid.

Didn't read the question right. My mistake.
