Aside from the boilerplate responses received from advertisers when they reject your request... (i.e. "This is not a reflection of the quality of your site; we based our decision on internal measures, blah, blah, blah")... what other responses have you received from an advertiser about why your site wasn't allowed into their program?

Have you ever approached an advertiser and asked "Why?"

A way-too-common reason for rejection is simply that the website owner lives in the "wrong" country.

The affiliate advertisers don't even look at the site to assess its quality or where its traffic comes from; they can't see past the publisher's place of residence.

That's true. But what gets me is when advertisers reject applications based on traffic. Traffic via an advertising network isn't really valid, is it?

I don't place ads on every single page. If I did, I could see how an advertiser (through the ad network) could check my traffic stats.

I was turned down by one because they didn't see how their products fit with the site. Although I could see exactly how they'd fit in, I realized the site wasn't developed enough for them to see it. I'll try again, but not until the site itself is more developed and I have a mock-up to show them exactly how I envision their products getting a boost from the site.

What's funny to me is -- large corporations like Sony, Nike, and Target graciously allowed me into their program.

But smaller, sometimes barely successful companies... (who try to sell similar products) ... often do not allow you in.

Weird.

I have sometimes gotten rejections based on the fact that I have no website to promote the product in question. Little do they know that their products can be promoted quite successfully without the affiliate having their own website, but instead using a merchant landing page with my aff code on it..and directing ppc traffic their way :)
