I thought it was about time I got into the affiliate marketing arena and try and make the internet make me money instead of me just spending it on the internet.
I'm UK based and have a domain which I think could be a good brand and memorable too.
I've signed up with tradedoubler and joined more than a few of it's affiliate programs - on the theme of the site, not just any old one.
I've built a basic site which has some content, but is basically a series of landing pages for each sub theme in the site.
I've started an adwords campaign for two of the items on the site, got quite a few impressions of the ad, a fair few clicks on certain keywords, but no one is then clicking off my site to the affiliate sites.
It's been up and running for a week now, and while i wasn't expecting any sales in that time, I was hoping to see people clicking through to the affiliate sites.
I think i've bitten off a bit more than i can chew to start with too many affiliates and not quite enough thought into the way the site works.
Does anyone have some advice, to get going with UK affiliates. I'm not looking at instant millions (I'm not totally dopey) but a nice trickle that can be built on would be nice.
I don't really want to build a site and content, get traffic and then add affiliates, i'm more interested in the adwords -> landing page -> affiliate to tick things over while I build up the site slowly.
Am I wishing for too much?
I run a few succesful affiliate sites, and do exactly what you are doing. I put the pages up, send some AdWords to them and keep track of the keywords.
Most of your time should be spent getting the right group of keywords. My landing pages are nothing special.I more or less encourage them to click through for more info or to purchase. The quicker I get shoppers to the merchants site, the more likely I am to get a sale. My point is that I put very little design into the pages.
I also have a few affiliate sites that are loaded with content and product pages. These sites have been optimized and provide more than a full time income, but they are alot more work.
If you want to sticky me your landing page I can take a look at it and see why you may not be getting visitors to clickthrough.
wellzy
So I guess what I'm saying is, you can't expect too much in such a short time span. Unless you built a site SPECIFICALLY to make money, you'll probably have to wait for your customers to find you. Speaking of which, what are your numbers? Visitors/day, etc.?
as for traffic, the sites only been up for a week or two, so there's no huge figures to speak of, probably 200 - 300 sessions per week although most of that is probably from the adwords.
I've not done much work on high search engine placements yet as time is a bit limited right now. I'm concentrating more on the adwords side of things .... is that the right thing to do?
Concentrate on one program or area that you know something about. Buy targeted traffic on Adwords and send it directly to the merchant site. Then its a case of balancing your spend against commission, and watching the phrases people use. Create new ads to match the phrases that are being used to bump up your CTR.
If you're lucky to find some phrases that aren't too competitive in the serps, create a page to get some free traffic to complement adwords. Once you're happy with the money coming in, move onto a different area.
As I said, this probably isn't the best or easiest way, but 40k a year can't be bad.
