Hello all,

I run a personal web site, about french language.
About more than 1000 visitors/a day and a bit more than 3500 pages/a day for my stats (according to site meter).

At this time I have no ad on my site : it's a personal site, nothing to sell, more in educative field than in commercial activity.

I have to pay for the domain .net (cheap, ok) but it would be fine if I could make some money with my work.

The question is : can really personal web site, especially in educative field, make some money? and at what cost? (I don't want a big ugly adult ban :)

I have tested google ads but there is almost nothing compatible with the subject of my site : so the ads are useless. I'm almost sure Amazon won't give me money.

Some suggestion for how to make a little money with a personal web site in educative field?

Thanks in advance,
gb.

Look closely at your viewers/demographics. What do they like/need? The holidays are coming. Christmas gifts? Flowers for Valentines day? Mothers/fathers day? Unless those viewers live in caves they are buying something from someone.

Hello rbarker

thanks for replying ;
of course they will buy something, but note I don't sell anything. The more I can do is suggesting them to buy something somewhere. Nothing more : intrusive advertising is impossible on sort of site I'm running : must be smooth and 'tolerable'.

So, I may find some commercial website selling, for example, dictionaries online (it is very close from my object) and I may put a link to them.
Then, how to do for the 'contract' : pay the emplacement, pay the click? and what gain/revenue (sorry for my broken english, hope I'm not rude) can be expected? better idea to use google ad-like profesional?

Language learning packages may be a good match.

What skibum said, maybe books. I figure people that want to learn French might have some intentions on traveling there one day/soon. Probably interested in the culture too. Maybe French souvenirs, stuff from France. Might take a little experimenting but you should be able to make some money from it.

everything's possible, even with a small site... it might just cover your hosting or might enable you to quite your full time job (wait, don't do that... yet! :)
Best is to try a lot of different things, adsense, affiliate programs... banners will probably not make a lot of revenue.

I'm sure that CJ runs a program for the world's nunber 1 home study language learning course - that's gotta be a natural fit surely?

I've had a hard time converting sales on purely informational sites. I have a Christams sites where I tried everyhting the only thing that ever worked was adsense for a couple bucks a day. People looking for information aren't buyers, people looking for information about products are.

I'm almost sure Amazon won't give me money.

I started to add Amazon category and product pages through Amazon Web Services to most of my information centered sites (read: nothing but some adsense clicks revenue sites :)) during the last months and the results were quite fine.

Although only a few surfers searching for pure information visit the bookstore part of our site, the themed book pages got good rankings in the search engines and drive new product-oriented traffic to book pages.

My last quartely checks from Amazon were about: 20$ - 160$ - 1800$ - and Q4 will beat them all...

Hello all and thanks for replying ;
and greetings for the amazon money winner! nice ;)

I don't know yet in what way I will try to get back the money I have to spent for hosting my site and buying its name. Not easy. It's not too expensive so some clicks will do the job (I hope, I dream?)...

I will look at the forum for more informations about things I don't know they are.
