Initial fake sale. has this happened to you?

I've had this experience about half a dozen times over the years: I join a new (not necessarily "new" but new to me) affiliate program and within hours I make a sale. Then nothing for literally weeks or months (or however long it is before I give up). There is never more than that one sale in these cases, and the first sale comes within perhaps 6-12 hours of joining the program.

Could it be the affiliate manager has a discretionary budget to try and "encourage" new affiliates, and (perhaps based on certain criteria, perhaps not) hits the "record a sale for this guy" button in his administrative panel. After all, a program that closes a sale within hours must be worth featuring more prominently and sending more traffic to, right?

Am I alone in this? Once is a coincidence, twice is perhaps a coincidence but this is now literally about the 6th or 7th time it's happened to me...

I've had it happen a few times over the years. More the exception than the rule though.

Perhaps its also their way of testing that your site has the code installed properly and is doing everything right?

I can imagine setting that up, myself :)

Always had a hunch it goes on, but never been able to prove it.
