Google Checkout & CJ Merchants

Is there a tracking problem?

I just got an email from a CJ merchant that says, in part:

I know that many people are against implementing Checkout for a number of reasons. The main reason that effects you guys is the tracking, but we have came up with a solution. Any customer with an affiliate cookie will not get the option to checkout with Google. Also I will try my hardest to keep any promotions involving Google Checkout hidden from affiliate customers.

This is the first I have heard of any such problem...

Lots of discussion about this beginning late last year. Do a Google search for "Google Checkout affiliate tracking." In early December, Google provided code for merchants to implement that resolved non-tracking of affiliate sales through Checkout. I would question that merchant as to why they haven't implemented that code.

There's some shopping cart software that the Google checkout code simply doesn't work with.

Thank you both - I'll be checking with merchants on a case-by-case basis.

There were sites like the Starbucks store and others that didn't seem to credit aff sales processed through the Checkout payment system when it first launched.

Some sites still will NOT credit affiliate sales, simply because their particular shopping cart software won't track to pay commissions for orders paid through Google Checkout.

One particular shopping cart software will not record and pay commissions for sales made and paid via Google Checkout, and despite the merchant(s) requesting that the capability be implemented, it has NOT yet been done.

Unfortunately, this software is the default ecom offered by a VERY popular web host and despite attempts by one specific merchant to get tracking implemented for affiliate sales, the ecom software provider has yet to work a fix.
