Advertiser wants to pay per unique visitor click through each month

I want to suggest they pay per unique visitor each day

While in negotiations with a current advertiser on our media website, I believe our advertiser will want to switch from a flat monthly ad rate (includes brand exposure and unbranded links to their site) to links only (and pay only for click throughs and the branding ads will be removed). The trial shows pretty good click throughs.

I believe they will want to pay only per UNIQUE VISITOR CLICK through OVER ONE MONTH (they show us this data so we are comfortable with the numbers) however I have been told that paying per one unique visitor click through over one month is industry standard. Is this so?

I would like them to pay for each unique click through per DAY.

In terms of industry standard, they pay Google for ALL click throughs.

If we lose income due to loss of the branding ads, I do not want to get stung by not getting value from the click throughs.

My website has already been acknowledged by the advertiser as high quality traffic in a niche market.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, I am new to the Internet Advertising field! Thanks!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

If it's for a sale of an item, then a 30 day cookie or session id is used to track in case the visitor comes back later on buys.

I haven't heard of any PPC where you only have to pay for the unqiue visitor one time per month. Certainlynone of the PPC engines work this way and I don't know why you should either.

I think the advertiser is confusing PPA ( pay per action) vs. PPC pay per click.

Thank you for the welcome eljefe3! and for your response!

It is very helpful to hear your view - and it now gives me confidence to
go back to our advertiser knowing the "industry standard" is actually the opposite to what they suggest and that each click through should be paid.

I agree with you regarding the pay per action, as the trial we have had was also set up to track the purchases, however there were very few purchases made from our traffic. However as we supply them high quality specific traffic, our advertisers still wanted to pursue links on our site - but as you point out they are still thinking along paying via a pay per action model!

Cheers,
Mustang :)
