I have a client who has started a program and has attracted SOME affiliates, but doesn't look like many good ones. I think the aff program is going to be a good option for him, but he wants to continue to spend money on PPC.
I honestly feel like attracting some good affiliates would be a better strategy for him, but being relatively new to this role, I don't have many good recommends. Can anyone help with good options for promoting an aff program from the manager perspective?
I've been trying to research this lately, and it looks like there are a lot of individual consultancies and affiliate directory submission companies. Are any of these reputable? Are there any "grass roots" options before paying another company top dollar for strong performance? I would imagine this is somewhat comparable to SEO...what are some of the things he can do for himself to promote his program?

Remember that the 80/20 rule of affiliate marketing is more like the 90/10 rule. So it takes lots of recruiting to get those 10 or 20 gems unless you know how to find them directly.
Best of Luck! Linda

It has been a while since we went out looking for anything, but actually that is changing thanks to growth and the need to diversity further. Unfortunately, I find that I feel far more uncertain when I go looking, since it's hard to know from looking at an broad aggregator (e.g., CJ) or niche aggregator who is worth working with and who isn't.
Somehow the ones that find us tend to just be more together and advanced...and the fact that they researched things and then made contact always makes me feel that they're more capable.
Also, sorry to say, but working with those who are new to working with aff's can be rather painful. FWIW.
I am guessing it will be like link exchange requests - send 200 get a few good replies, etc
