Hello there,

Something I just wanted to share with you people, since you've been such a great help so far:

After spending many hours lurking my behind off on this great forum, I've finally taken the first steps into the world of AM. My first site is nothing more than a home-scripted front-end to another site, with the added functionality of product-search and a lot of SEO done (product/landing pages, proper use of headers etc).

Well, I just submitted the site to various search engines and directories, so I consider it 'live' now (although it won't come up in the SERPS for a while).

I'm putting all of my AM/SEO/PHP/HTML/CSS knowledge to the test, so I do feel a certain amount of tension!

I have spent couple of years dabbling with AM and it's not so easy as it sounds. You obviously have got a good grasp of what you want to do so Best of Luck.

I've heard a lot about those 'linking campaigns', but how does one go about executing them? As of this moment, I have zero budget, so I assume I just have to post my url on as many boards / guestbooks / linkfarms I can find and just submit those pages to google?

Guestbooks carry minimal weight.
Some boards do not get spidered.
Linkfarms should be avoided like the plague.

Try to get some reciprocal links going with similar sites to yours. If your site is good people will naturally want to link to it anyway so you will build up link pop over time.
I personally link to any new sites from any old site that gets spidered. As soon as i notice the spiders in the new site i pull down the link from the irrelevant site. I have not noticed any problems doing this. I fact 2 weeks ago i pulled the same trick and that site is now in the google serps.

Johnnie...For someone who's lurked here for ages, you should know better than link to FFA's and other link farms...that's a no-no with a capital N.

Good luck though! The hardest step is taking the first one. Don't let anyone discourage you by saying that it takes a lot of work. Sure, it does, but if you have a lot of passion, hard work turns into fun :)

Dave.

I think he was just going to get links from these pages.

Exchanging links with on-topic sites is still a much better idea than FFAs and guest-book spam though.

'Ages' is an overstatement. I have been here since august this year, but have spent many hours lurking, reading almost every post. There hasn't been much discussion concerning link development here, which is probably due to there being a separate forum for that :)

I guess I'll just have to learn through experience. Reading helps, but it won't get the job done (paralysis by analysis anyone?).

Yeah that's a problem I had back when I started. Link campaigns is just about finding related websites and asking them to link to you or link exchaning with you.
