Giving up on a site...

Hey,

I found a product that made a little money through PPC straight to Merchant. This was awhile ago.

I decided to build a small 5 page site around the topic, and in the process improve the Conversion Rate of the product which was only 1% when I sent people from AdWords to the Merchant site.

I built one site... No Sales.

Just built second site with different layout and content... No Sales

I am now trying to figure out why there hasn't been a sale for the second site. The product isn't really expensive (Under $100), and it used to work through PPC.

If anything, I have found that by creating a landing site (Mini Site) for people to go through before sending them to the Merchant, increases the Conversion Rate.

I have just changed some things to the second site, and am hoping this may change things.

So when do you give up on a site? I know that it is sometimes hard for a site to be successful right from the start, and that you can lose money in the process of trying to make something profitable.

Thoughts?

C.K.

P.S. I would have probably given up on the site a little while ago and never posted this, but I hate giving up on things.

Important questions

  • Are you driving traffic to your site with PPC traffic or organic SERPs?
  • How much traffic are you drawing to these two sites?
  • If organic, how are you ranking on important keywords?
  • How targeted is your traffic?

Hey,

Are you driving traffic to your site with PPC traffic or organic SERPs?

PPC. AdWords specifically

How much traffic are you drawing to these two sites?

Only one site. I think I may have worded it wrong. The first site was redesigned and is now site 2. I am drawing on average... 35 clicks per day

If organic, how are you ranking on important keywords?

No SE Rankings.

How targeted is your traffic?

I would say very targeted. I have very little KeyWords in there that would be considered broad, no single words either.

A few suggestions:

Go back and use AdWords directly to the merchant site. If the sales reappear, you know that it's the web site. Does the web site provide as much or more information as the merchant landing page? Does it load quickly and easily? Does your web site not have the price listed and the merchant site does?

If using ads to go directly to the merchant site doesn't regain sales, then the problem isn't your web site, it's the product. Most products have a burst of sales when they're first announced and then trickle off over time. Has the product been superseded by a new release? Is there now one or more competitors for the product with possibly a better price?

With the price of hosting being so cheap, it might be worth it to keep the site and use it to link to sites that are more profitable.

Cody, a simple question...

If the PPC direct to merchant worked why did u bother building a site yourself? Once you find something that works in this way, leave it to provide an income and move on to the next thing.

It's like you've fixed something that wasn't broken.

Unless it's for SEO rankings OR the stuff won't work direct to merchant, I NEVER build a site - what's the point of investing more time when you're already making money without effort?
