what is a fair price for sponsored links?

i could use some advice on a fair price

Someone from a marketing company contacted me to include sponsored links on my forum pages. I already have Adsense running, and I'm sure this won't conflict.

If I was offered $50/mth to start, should I just say yes and see how it goes?

I assume that they have tracking that will let them know the performance. But if it's good, would they then increase the monthly payout or would that be up to me to pursue.

Conversely, if it's not performing well, then they would probably drop the payments.

What do you pros think?

I would suggest implementing a tracking system on your end so that you can see the performance and place value based on the impressions they receive. Building a relationship with them to start off is a good idea, don't undercut yourself.

I would also be interested to hear how others go about pricing direct advertising slots on their established sites.

Possiblities are opening up for me right now, and direct advertising arrangements are not something I've dealt with much previously.

I guess that would be up to you to pursue, which makes it all the more important that you have a way of measuring how the links are performing.
