Does anyone here know what the average click through rate is for banners and leaderboards?

Thanks,

Around 1% is average I think.
Anything around 4-5% is pretty good.

These are our actual CTR for the first half of the month of August:

728/468 Banner: 1.60%
Pop-Under: 1.81%
160/120 SkyScraper: 0.31%
Medium Rectangle: 0.39%
Rectangle: 0.32%
Half Page: 0.11%

This CTR apply to professionally produced adcverts served by an agency, and have only counted impressions where the full advert loaded.

On banner exchange programs, the CTR is typically far lower, perhaps due to the poor quality of the adverts?

Hope this helps.

Actually, It depends where you advertise. If you advertise in search engines, I would go with the numbers shown here or something close but if you target a specific niche, it can go up to 10%. However, Google's AdSense might provide a better ROI but I haven't tried it yet so I suggest you read about it.

The industry standard CTR (that's been bandied about for years) for an untargeted banner is 0.3%. It gets progressively better for targeted banners, search form banners, expanding banners and rich media.
