Anyone know of a Affiliate Directory site?

I cannot believe there is not a quality site on the net

I've tried and tried to find a quality affiliate directory site on the internet and cannot find one.

They are all spam-sites with a random spattering of affiliates.

I cannot believe that this type of site does not exsist, and if it doesnt, SOMEONE (warning: possible site idea ahead) should make one!

"quality affiliate directory"? - What do u mean? A directory of aff programs exists, if that's what you're after, but it's only updated once in a while and to my mind thecontent is insufficient to classify as a valuable resource.

I've seen a few in my travels. I know someone who ran such a site with good traffic, but the ROI wasn't good enough for him to keep up with the site.

Mind-boggling. I just visited a few sites, and it's no wonder people directly go to the networks to find out who sells what.

Two things I've figured out as a small-time newbie at it:

A lot of what's out there might be determined by second tier income, not necessarily impartial review. Find good sites and see who they're hooked up with in the area of your interest. I just found a couple and hit paydirt for a couple of potentials - by seeing who the sites were representing.

Also, hunt around and see if there's a particular affiliate manager you "take to" and look into whatever programs they have. I won't tell who, but there's one I'm absolutely enchanted with - very impressed and the trust is there, plus the reputation from reliable sources. I just dabble a bit when I get the time, but I'll eventually go into whatever they've got.

Not every niche rewards unbiased content, and this is a perfect example.

I have better luck finding 'rounded' program info at a few affiliate forums.

I have found lots of good merchants with affiliate programs by seeing what the top results for a particular niche are using.

Agree with Patrick. Find an area and then see what the sites in it are using. Compare and if you have a proven track record, negotiate for better commissions than the base ones listed.

Allan Gardyne (from Australia) runs the oldest affiliate directory on the net, he also has a lot of articles, newsletter archives, and a forum. He uses Associate instead of Affiliate in his domain, but a search for AssociatePrograms or Allan Gardyne should bring it up easily.

In addition to Allan's Refer-it is pretty good.

Refer-it (I was one of the early employees there) actually pre-dated Allan's directory by a little bit.

I stand corrected :) I should have said "one of the oldest"

What do you think would constitute a good directory?

A decent directory would have updated info and well categorized programs without tons of self promotional rubbish from "marketing gurus" that barely make 6 figures per year themselves. It would have a clean interface and would not accept mass submissions.

Here are some ways to avoid making a directory total junk.

1. Do not have dead links everywhere or bad info
2. Do not accept mass submission from mlm based tools
3. Do not promote your own or your buddies ebooks
4. No 2nd tier deals - just direct links to programs
5. Do not have never ending scrolling pages
6. Do not use red font
7. Do not put testimonials from partners or friends
8. Do not give priority to your own stuff
9. No forums
10. Ads or promotion are marked as such
11. No "affiliate managers"
12. Accurate description of payouts

Just to clarify a few things here:

1) If everyone where allowed to promote their own links here the board would be unusable and useless. Think about it... everyone here has a site to promote. If you want to promote your own site, put it in your profile and contribute to the community.

We have to draw the line somwhere, and it's all a judgement call. We mods do our best, but we aren't perfect and don't know everyone's intentions. Those who have a post history usually get more benefit than doubt.

2) No comments or complaints about moderation are allowed on WebmasterWorld. Period.

3) "Sticky me for details" posts are not allowed either.
