I was approached by a sales person at a company who sells keyword phrases which are typed directly into the address bar and would direct traffic to us. The way it works is that you have to have a plugin installed on Internet Explorer. They claim that 16,000,000 people have their tool installed. They charge $395 for a keyword for one year. I guess I'm not allowed to post a URL so if anyone wants it sticky me.

Personally I think this is a scam and don't plan to buy in on it, especially without hearing from you guys first.

Such companies come and go all the times and this is not the first time this question has been asked on webmasterworld. My advice is stay away from such deals.

Many of these types of companies have surfaced over the years (many are probably the same company with a different name).

Just as an aside, Google specifically recommends staying away from these types of companies in their webmaster info section:

My experience and others I have spoken with has not been a good ROI. There's a reason they want to charge a flat fee rather than CPC.

At best, probably scumware traffic, at worst absolutely no traffic.

Thanks so much for the advice. I'll tell the sales guy to bug-off if he calls again.
