I understand your position ;-) I think all affiliates are in a constant state of "fast" and "now" and make it happen yesterday.
However I can tell you that slow and steady will win in the end, don't get me wrong I have pushed out sites with success and watched the visitors and sales come in.
However if you pace yourself and do some each and every day you will see great results over time.
You mention some of the programs, software and other tools to create your site. Good ole fashion html will go along way ;-) While php, database driven sites and cgi are very "in tools" right now understand that google and most of the other search engines just love static pages.
Take it one step at a time, focus on getting a great site up first and then work toward improving on your next site or section of your first site.
I have been doing this full time now for about 16 months or so, I just started messing with some data feed tools ... for over a year all I really did was create more pages and sites using frontpage (the authoring tool hated by so many).
Good luck & Have Fun!
