Ad Networks Post-Adsense

Have they changed?

I used to sell about a million unsold page views a month through the various banner ad networks each month. After about two months of Adsense I got an e-mail from one of the networks telling me to put their ad code back up or I would be dropped from the program. I told them to increase their pay rates and decrease the time it took to get payment or I would have to cancel my membership. Well, you can guess what their reply was. They couldn’t believe a lowly publisher was telling them what to do.

I haven’t regretted a thing. My revenue from ‘unsold’ space is now five times what it was back then and I get my payments the next month, not the end of the next quarter. I was just wondering last night if any of the banner ad networks have changed their strategy now that they have such a large, legit competitor.

Do any of your still use the networks? Have they changed anything since Adsense came onto the market? Have any of them increased payouts? Have they decreased the time it takes for payments to arrive?

After the initial 30 - 90 days of starting the account, I have received payments from the ad networks like clock work. Would love to know which network said that to you. Obviously, they do not appreciate their members. Had the same problem with an affiliate program. Merchant (very well known retailer) call me up and said you need to change four major things of our site, or we would close my account) Well, I am not the person who jumps when someone says how high. I said, well are not going to change our whole site around for your program. Well, there was a brief silence from the rep, and that I said good day. Unbelievable, the nerve of some companies.

We used Bannerspace and Fastclick for left over space. Bannerspace paid better but was a PITA about keeping their code up. They're the one's who told us to put the code back up or be terminated. They were okay in the pre-Adsense world.

Yea, they are very strange on that issue. You should consider switching to GorillaNation dot com & Value Click. They payouts are better, as is the support.

I use FastClick for my AdSense defaults and pops.

Payout rates are the same as they have always been, but they do seem to be getting slighly better gross CPM's. I do not know if this is because of AdSense or just a recovering ad market.

The one major recent change at FastClick has been a redesign of their admin section. It is not only far more attractive, but the reporting is much better now.

As far as customer sevice to publishers go, I have never (pre or post AdSense) had a problem with payment or anything else. I'm generally pretty hard on vendors, but I have no bad things to say about FastClick.
