Popup prevention and target=_blank

How to maximize sales

I noticed that where I use "target=_blank" the pop up tools do not let a new window open. I am sure this is common knowledge to everyone else, but I never realized. So, what do you guys do to maximize sales? Do you just let the affiliate link open in the same window and hope that visitors don't close the browser? Or, do you still use the "target=_blank" and just hope that they know how to use the CTRL function to disable the popup prevention tool?

Up until November I used the "target=_blank" and made 0 sales. Once I deleted the "target="blank", I immediately started getting sales.

I don't open new windows anymore, instead I add a screen tip to links that says "Bookmark this site now - links do not open in new windows." I think it's helped bookmarks and I don't want to risk any links getting blocked. Some of the pop-up blockers I have researched block new windowns so subtely that a novice could easily assume the link just did not work and not even realize some software on their machine blocked it. My 2 cents.

I use Googles pop-up blocker, and it allows target=_blank.

Which pop-up blockers prevent target=_blank?

Which pop-up blockers prevent target=_blank?

The blocker on my pc at home blocks target=_blank. I am not home to check what the name of the program is, however. I know that Google allows target=_blank, but I fear I am losing sales to those other programs which do block them. I just removed the target=_blank, and we will see what happens to conversion.

I don't understand why that would be blocked, because it is based on a user request.

If this is in fact correct, does anyone know of another technique to allow a user to click and receive a second window.

We've made a campaign about not using popups, and educatd users as to right clicking and how to block them - as I detest popups extensively, if I want a new window, I'll right click and do it myself.

In fact, if an affiliate uses any popups, I'll find another affiliate to buy that product from.

This has led to us selling a huge amount of pop up blocking software and privacy software even though the affiliate site has nothing to do with either.

Information is powerful, show people how to do stuff and they'll buy...

If I find that pop-up blockers are in fact blocking target=_blank, then I'll stop using that.

What blockers block target=_blank?

I use _blanks for form mail & printer friendly html.

Norton Internet Security, Google, & AltaVista's pop-up blockers let them open. Which programs are blocking _blank for you all?

I'd like to know as well. I'd be amazed if any popup blockers stopped new windows by default, as it would make a huge number of websites unusable.

I just checked on my PC, and the program I use that stops "target=_blank" is PopUp Dummy. It was one I found online a long time ago. So there is no telling how many similar popup programs like this stop the "_blank" new-browser windows from opening. The PopUp Dummy also lists the windows/URLS that it prevented from opening, and the ones it listed were the very affiliate links that had "target=_blank" in the html. I removed that coding and they open now.

I am anxious to see if this helps increase sales in light of the growing number of people who use Popup prevention programs and the unknown number of those programs that may stop new browsers from opening if "target=_blank" is used.

If you set your Google prefs to open a new window when clicking a SERP, does pop-up dumbass squish it?

Webwasher (older version - not sure what the new one is like) is one that I can think of that stop all popups, which is annoying as it makes some sites that use java popups for info unusuable.

I've tried a number of others that stop target=_blank, and java popups, even when you clicked on it. They made a lot of sites look very bad as it seemed most of the links were broken on them.

If I'm on a site that requires the popup to occur to view something (CNN has this for a while - they were smart to get rid of it), and I really want to view it, I use analog's popup closer with Phoenix, the pop up is opened in the background, and then closed. I never see it, but the interface did occur.
