Banner vs. text link

I know it depends on the flow of your site but banners all over a page sometimes looks messy. On the other hand a picture gets your attention where you might just over look text.

Which brings you more success?

Text links by far. I think any affiliate manager will tell you that text links outperform banners.

I think text-links have a by far petter conversation-rate on the merchants site than visits generated by banners. I don't have exact numbers, but it's what I saw on my sites over the last couple over the past years.

Text Links.....for several SEO reasons as well!

I get more clicks on my 728x90 banners at the top of my pages than the text links at the bottom. Other text links outperform my banners (i only have that size of banner).

Well try changing your text links to the top and banners on bottom and I bet you will see a change. Whatever is at the top and easily seen will always do better then what is hidden at the bottom.

Sites Ive done or own do much better with Text Links. I do agree (as some banners show) that the image can grab a users attention. However for this to happen the image must be very eye catching or very relevant. But for SEO and just cleaner look I prefer text links for the most part.

In my experience it has always depended upon the situation. The success has been about equal for both overall.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will start experimenting... As I have adsense on the site as well I have to make sure the text links to not look like advertisements (AdSense TOCs). That was one benefit of having banners.

I always like to use a combination of banner and text links. The banner helps to draw attention and to break up paragraphs of text. It also depends on what you are selling. Clothing seems to do well with banners and PRODUCT specific images and links.

If in doubt, you can use trial and error to find out which works best in your situation.
