To start off, I realize this type of question is very hard to answer and there is no general rule. My intention is to merely get an understanding of what others are doing.
Models: 1) small piece of a big pie, but many small pieces
2) big piece of the pie, but few pieces.
Which model do you guys do? If one can make $100 from a site which little or know effert, why not create 100 sites like it?
Benits: diversified with multiple revenue streams, hard to manage so many etc etc.
OR
Work hard on 1 site, focus, narrow the niche and make loads of profits.
drawbacks: all eggs in 1 basket
Which model do you guys employ?
A good idea would be to forward all email to a central account, and then reply using the sites original domain, is that what you guys do?
I would hate to see how long it takes to check 1000 different email accounts on your computer!
Actually on that note, what is the general rule on email addresses, I guess its a MUST to establish a trust with the visitor when sellling affiliates?
Do you host all the domains on the SAME I.P address? Does it make a difference?
What would be great, which is something I'm planning, is to develop a database driven applicatino that will figure out what domain the site is for, and show relavent data for it --> 1 website that is actual n websites with all the data coming from the db.
After what you guys have told me, I think this is the best approach. Its a nighmare to handle all those domains, 1 single-point of reference will make this easier on me!
Ofcourse this is assuming the site structure will be the same for all (generally).
Domain 1, Very very simple and user friendly, nil bells and whistles. basic navigation. (Three Page click through from home page to payment page.) Nil Cookies only url data transfer.
Domain 2, Average size site, normal shopping cart e.g. like your competitors would have. Cookies maybe.
Domain 3, Elaborate site, Corporate feel, with every Accessory available. Multiply ordering and order tracking, online help, forums, date reminders full cookies etc,
I would certainly build Domain 1 first, Domain 2 second then Domain 3 thrid,
Surprisingly enough Domain 1 always outsells domain 2 and 3 in my case.
I guess KISS works every time (KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid )
