How does it work from multiple sources?

Hi,

I'm sort of new about this kind of business and trying to undertand all the implications. My question is:

Let's say you are promoting something thru an affiliate program, like a ... let's say a new brand cell phone (something popular) .. then you and other 20 webmasters put the banner in their websites, a user comes by your page, see an click the banner and check for the cellphone (then your cookie is setted up on the affiliate site), then goes home, think and decide to buy it .. so he goes again to the web and look for the phone and reach another different web page displaying the same banner, clicks and buy the phone.. who gets the commision?

You as the original referal or the othe web site?

The last aff link clicked is what gets stored in the cookie, and gets the commission.

If a cookie gets set with your code, and then later the visitor goes through a different affiliate link, it overwrites the first cookie.

Point being, if they go through you originally, note the site name, and then return later by directly going to the site or by going through an unaffiliated link, you still get the commissions.

You sure on this? We are doing it exactly as you say, but I have been pointed at this with a comment that this is not fair.

I am trying to do some research if not the first affiliate should get the cookie, and all the other ones get ignored. Argument being that the first one did the "dirty work".
