I have d/led several of the 'new' ip blasters thathave hit the market recently and as simple as they are to run, this guy is stumped. I'm running them on win 2000, cable connection, moocho ram, etc and they run fine, except that they are all failing, not one actual shows up under 'ips mailed'? any help appreciated!

Set the IP range to "127.0.0.1/24"

That'll do it.

Too polite. If someone puts s**t in your shoe, does it matter what kind it is? All spam is crap and those that deal it deserve no quarter in this or any other forum.

The I.P. message feature is only available to Windows XP users. Many have already changed their settings, or may have downloaded a program or service pack that would turn the I.P. message feature off. Others may be protected by firewalls and so forth.

So, your ads would not likely show up.

In regards to the flamers. Do I think this type of advertising is beneficial? No. But, if you're going to talk about ethics... then consider all of the BHO/spyware and other forms of advertising that aren't necessarily considered spam. Then look who participates in those activities.... Yahoo owns Overture, who has an agreement with Gator spyware/scumware.

If it's okay for the big boys, then why shouldn't the little guy think it's okay for them?

I don't have contempt for this guy, I feel sorry for him. I know how it is to have a passion for an industry, and then struggle trying to get a foothold into it. Hopefully he will eventually be able to come across or develop a method of delivering targeted traffic that will not infringe on anybody... not through i.p ads, spyware, or uce.

In regards to the flamers.

LOL :-)

Are you really trying to justify this behaviour?

By the way, welcome to Webmaster World mailpuppy.

mailpuppy - you hit the nail on the head with "targeted traffic". Find the people who *want* to buy your product, and sell it to them.
I liken Messenger Service advertising to grabbing random people in the street, shoving your product in their hands and expecting them to give you money.

FWIW, as all of the messages are being rejected, I reckon the ISP's got smart and blocked outgoing messenger traffic.

I also used to get in some ads like a month ago. Now they seem to have dried up. Thanks to everybody that helped them slow down.

But NO Good solution for Email SPAM anywhere.

No Requiem, I can't possibly justify Yahoo/Overture's behavior. Nor anybody else who may try to emulate them.

Thanks for the welcome.

you live, you venture, you experiment, i have never condoned spam, bulk email, etc since my 1st days on the net back in 1996. I guess because i spend 12-14 hours daily on web, i get a thrill or rush when something new hits the web, whether it ethical or not, i never got it to work, caused the developer a simple chargeback for my 29 bucks and went back to my usual tv/newspaper/magazine,etc ads. so much for a quick fix for the boredom that creeps up on me once in a web while. In closing, i appreciate ll of the feedback, good or bad. Hope everyone is having a profitable day/week/month blah blah
