Yet another company thinking it can change it's public perception by renaming itself.

cnet news [news.com.com]
press release [prnewswire.com]

I guess this tactic wasn't working well enough, suing anyone who says gator and spyware in the same sentence [news.com.com].

Now instead of being a Gator it's a just wolf in sheep's clothing.

I guess they're trying to attract more feminine users than macho masculine users now. Doesn't a name like Claria sound like its marketing to feminine users?

I think it's one of those damned-brand dodges that reminds me that there's definitely a market for "word games for yuppies."

Top of the list, of course, would be Altria. All the ads emphasize the "tree" association. Green. Upscale. (Tobacco IS green, you know.)

Ha Ha - They are on their toes and thinking ahead!

Claria makes me think of clarity. Would make a great name for Acne Medication - but no way it's going to "clear up" Gator's reputation.

LoL, that's pretty funny with the "sucks" site registrations... but smart webmasters I have to say. This is definitely a company that's skilled with manipulating people on the web, but I don't think renaming will last long (and the lawsuits to shut people up always backfire).

Interesting that there is a Gator banner plastered at the bottom of the page amznVibe linked to for Internet News.

Claria? What a God-awful name (for a God-awful company). Why not just change your name to "Generica"?

This is almost as funny as Phillip Morris International changing its name to Altria.
(Altria now owns both Phillip Morris USA and Kraft Foods, like that changes anything for them)
