Hi!
I've got a client that wants to market a software program on his website. He wants to try to find a "partner" company that will totally handle the credit card authorization and fulfillment - no mailing, just downloading software, however he doesn't want to be bothered with the purchasing/credit card headaches, he just wants a company that will handle that for him.

Any suggestions? Any idea on priceing?

THX!

Clickbank is often recommended for digital products.

I use Verisign Payflow Link with a merchant account. I also use Clickbank. Clickbank charges more but is easier than setting up a merchant account.

In both cases you have a "buy and download" link on your sales page that directs the user to Clickbank or Payflow Link. On those sites the buyer enters credit card info (on Payflow you select what is verified) and, if card is accepted, the other site directs them to a page on your site for a "thank you for your order" message. On that page you have a link for the buyer to download the goods.

You can also use Amazon Honor System the same way. However, while the others e-mail you the purchaser info (but not cc number) on Amazon HS you only have a record of the amount and time of the sale with no information about the location, e-mail, or name of the purchaser. I also use Amazon; it is easy for people who have an account at amazon to use.

www.digitalriver.com - best service, best bandwith and datacenters, likely the highest cost for your client

www.element5.com - are they even still in business? how?

then you get to all the smaller players, ccnow, regnow, etc

Clickbank is excellent, and extremely easy to set up - and when you have a new account, they will check to make sure your download links are working correctly.

2Checkout also offers this download service as well, but not quite as easy, both from a buyer and a seller standpoint.

They are still fulfilling orders for an old client of mine so I guess so. Last time I looked they had about a quarter the clients of Digital River but less expensive for the same quality of service.
