Message Too Old, No Replies

Someone wants to advertise on my site, what do I do?

They want a quote but I don't know how much.

Hi,

I received an inquiry from someone wanting to advertise on my home page with a text link.

My Google page rank is 5, I received an average of 505 unique visitors per day last month and I have the #1 and #2 position on Google for both of my preferred keyword phrases [snip]

Every page of my site (about 90 pages) links to the home page in my left border (I use FP).

They have asked me to give them a quote for a monthly rate but I have no idea. There is no other advertising on my home page so they would be the only one.

What is a reasonable fee? What do you think if I offered to put their link in the border? - then they would be on every page (they are a weight loss site) or is that not a good idea?

I don't want grossly over quote but then I also don't want to sell myself short either. What to do?

Thanks for your advice,
Murray

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

You should remove your URL/specifics from your post, as it is against the TOS [webmasterworld.com]

As for advertising rates, it will all vary depending on what your particular niche market is worth. Two sites with the same stats in completely different niche markets could charge two very different dollar amounts for advertising.

Check and see what your competitors charge for advertising, and that will give you an idea of the going rates for ads in your particular niche market.

How about offering to run their PPC advertising for them, if they don't do any already? Then adsense your page and offer to block any of their major competitors URLs?

Then you can take a cut of their advertising spend whilst making money with their and other clicks with adsense on your site? Just an idea. Depends if your worried about losing your sales yourself.

You could establish a fair CPC model to charge by if you only did it temporarily? Or check Adwords/Overture to see what max bid would be required to be no 1 and charge them that per click.

With only 505 visitors per day you will not be able to strike many 1-to-1 advertising deals.

These guys are after your PR.

I'd ask for $200/month for a link at the bottom of your left border.

p.s payment up front only :)

I wouldn't pay a penny to advertise on your site now that Google knows that you a selling PR5 links with 500+ uniques a day. Sorry 1Spirit I think you may have shot yourself in the foot.

It also against the TOS here to drop URLs of keyword phrase's, I'm saying you did NOT do it on purpose. but it may even be a competitors site which you want to get banned.

we try to stay neutral here at all times ;)

DaveN,

is there a problem with selling advertising on a site with 500 uniques and a PR of 5?

I don't understand why you say I shot myself in the foot. Can that get me banned from Google?

I eventually asked the other webmaster what they wanted to pay and they offered $8/month. Not surprisingly I didn't accept their offer so no arrangement was entered into.

it's not how much traffic you get, it's the idea you are selling PR, Google could come down heavy like they did on Bob at SK.

Ahhh....gotcha.

I just tried to edit it out of my previous letter but couldn't do it.

Thanks for pointing it out though, I was unaware.

Probably want to make your email address in your profile private as well my friend. Many members think they are being slick by not displaying their site in their profile only to have their email address with their domain visible. I have sniffed many members sites out based on their personal email address related to their domain. Yes, I am all about seeing what others are doing on here:)
