Info On Online Newsletters As Marketing Strategy

It's been stated that one method of online marketing is to start a newsletter. Where can one find tutorials/resources on this subject? Especially if one knows absolutely nothing about it?

It sounds like a good idea, but my own experience is that I dont read em, they pile into into a folder unread then I generally delete them all when it contains a few thousand.

One of the side angles is that I have tried [when I remember] to sign into each with a unique custom email address to monitor whether each provider actually stands by their privacy policies or do pass the email address on to others.
