Hi

I'm the webmaster of a spanish site with 30.000 unique visitors per month and 500.000 page views / month. Our site have banners and one pop up and pop under, and we only earn about 20 - 30 usd per month. Is this correct?
We are paying 75 usd per month of hosting.

can I earn more money? or maybe I need more more more visits.

Thanks

For that level of traffic you should be earning loads more $ or £ or Euros :)

Have a look at Adsense, and if this does not meet your needs then have a look at some Affiliate Programs - Tradedoubler is a good European one.

Thank you for your reply dayo

I have 4 tradedoubler programs in my site. Today I have entered in other company and I'll try. Now I have about 10 programs running in rotation. I'll expect to earn more money.

How many unique visitors (aprox) I need to earn about 500 usd / month? is this possible?

It takes more than just traffic itself. You need targeted traffic.

Depending on a given site's topic, the figures are infintely variable.

You might make $500/month on 10 visitors with some specialized niche topic, or you might be lucky to make $50/month with 100,000 for teen celebrity photos or some such.

Drastic just nailed it.

what are those people coming/looking for when they arrive at your site.

eg: 30,000 visitors to a site about Loans would make much money, the same to a site about Free downloads would just use up bandwidth...

Shak how do you go about estimating how much a site would make in a given topic?

There is no equation that will tell you how much money you will make on any given topic but to get a ball park idea you have to look for indications of where advertising money is spent and what the demand is for that particular advertising realty.

An easy way to do this would be to check out bid prices on PPC engines. You could also go to CJ.com and see which merchants are the big spenders in the network. Sniff around.

I make about $40/day off 1200 visitors. No idea if that is good or bad.

If I knew the answer to that, then I would be a very rich man.

Shak would be rich if he didn´t spend it on fast cars and ......

The man does speak sense though...the value of the visitor is dependent upon the offering.

40usd / day for 1200 vis /day is very very very much!

40 x 30 days = 1.200 usd!

I'm earning 20 usd / month

What I'm doing wrong?

Please, could you post here examples of number of visitors and money earned

What do you prefer, pay per click, pay per impression, lead, or sale?
I have this results on pay per click and lead. I have tryed with some programas of sales and the result is 0 zero, nada.

Thanks

First of all, could you give us some idea of the type of site it is - portal, informational, ecommerce, travel? Also what type of demographic (population) visits your site - teens, shoppers, people seeking entertainment, etc.?

In other words, what does your site do, without giving us the url?

ramirez, like Drastic, Shak and others have said, figures vary.

> We are paying 75 usd per month of hosting.

this seems a little high for 30k uniques per month. Are you using that much bandwidth? Shop around for better hosting prices.

Low maintenance, low overhead, filtering traffic to monetize it will turn around your equation.

Is this bookmark traffic or trading traffic?

Sounds like you are only cashing your exit traffic. Monetizing it has become more difficult recently, given the new features of Google toolbar and other popup killers.

There might be other ways to squeeze a buck out of your visitors. If you can't monetize the traffic with your present site, create a second one just for that purpose and funnel traffic into it. Find something to sell that matches your audience.

There are some generic products that work well with just about any surfer.

> spanish site. Another thing to take into account is: are your visitors capable of spending money online? Is the site geared towards hispanics in the US who would spend as much as their american counterparts or are you reaching an audience who can only spend through dialers? etc...

30k a month is not a huge amount of traffic, generally speaking. But with a well thought strategy you can probably make more than what you think.

Hello All,

The old "this many visitors and only this much monthly" question. This question must be asked at least every three months, usally from someone running a site with TONS of traffic.

That being said as others have mentioned it is important to understand that loads of visitors in no way shape or form equal loads of money in your pockets monthly.

Many people that are doing well on the net have learned that great amounts of money can be made when you can land very targeted traffic to your site.

Example:

visitor a is looking for a product on a search engine.

visitor a finds your site listed "nicely" in a search engine

visitor a clicks to your site and see's "just what he is looking for" and "buys".

From my experiance that is one of the best ways to make money online.... regardless of traffic totals.

My site is: [snip] is a site about the animation industry.

I know what is the problem. The 50% of my visits come from Spain and the other 50% come from South america. The problem is that my programs are only for spanish IP's. Tadedoubler are counting only the spanish clicks.

I think that this is my problem. I have to look for programs for both spain and south america.

Firstly with half a million page views you aren't going to be able to make much from banner advertising. To do this you would need a sales house selling space on your behalf on a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) basis. To get this you really need to be getting at least a million page views a month and also have a site that fits in with an advertisers wants. it isn't easy.

So think about what your users want, why are they coming to your site and what are their interests. Just sticking up a few CJ banners and hoping people will click through isn't going to make you much money (as is demonstrated). You need to integrate some advertising into your site that makes the user click through and purchase an item. The best way to do this is through text links linking to an affiliate program.

For example if your site was about dogs you would assume the majority of your viewers had a dog, you could write some content about flea collars and put a link
to a page selling the flea collar. You can bet a few more people would click that link instead of a generic banner.

I look at 0.25% of my traffic converting, that could mean 30c or $16.50, so one in a thousand is my benchmark.

0n your basis of 30th visitors and $20-$30 permonth commission Id say that was fair by my standards.

Try shopping around for hosting though sticky me and ill give you the details of a dirt cheap hosting firm.
