Are there any affiliate programs out there that are reliable and do not use the unique url to track affiliates sending leads?

I have heard there were, but I remain skeptical.

Anyone have any input regarding this?

We had a previous thread on referral tracking:

Drastic, thanks and I understand that.

But I want to know if there are any companies out there that have developed an affiliate system that works without unique url link codes. If there aren't, then there aren't. I was just hoping someone would have a slice of knowledge of one hiding out there.

thanks,
Justin

You can just use server logs or similar to count sites that refer traffic. It works, but this is not especially reliable, and so is far inferior to using unique urls.

Unique codes or urls are the most accurate method of tracking affiliates IMO, and so the vast majority of affiliate programs will therefore use them.

I'm pretty sure he's trying to get a free PR boost out of his affiliates which is why he wants to stay away from unique URLs.

Not certain I know exactly what you are looking for but
I work with an affiliate program that lets affiliate links help with link pop. The link goes right to the merchant site without a redirect or going through a 3rd party sever.
Tracking is done through the img tag so the customer does not need to click on your link and go directly to the merchant's site. If they load your page with the img tag on it and then go to the merchant's site through any other means (i.e. direct or through a SE) while in the same browser session you still get credit for the sale even if they didn't click your banner.

Banner links look like this:

<img src='http://www.merchantsite.com/cgi-bin/main/hotlinks.cgi?ap=affiliateid&client=merchantsite' width='1' height='1' border='0'><A HREF="http://www.merchantsite.com" target="_blank"><IMG SRC="http://www.merchantsite.com/banner468x60.gif" BORDER="0"></A>

Not sure if this what you were looking for. Let me know.
