Hi There, do you notice that there are some 3rd Rebates Plug-in in the internet and there are many users had installed this kind of plug-in, the major feature of the plug-in are offer some percentage rebate to the shoppers, if the shopper had installed the plug-in, wherever he is following an other affiliate link or other resource to a merchant's website, the plug-in will rewrite the links by adding his own affiliate id.
Recently, my commission in CJ, befree and LinkShare are drop distinctly, I wonder if it is because there are many people have installed the plug-in.
My question are:
1. is it legal for these plug-in to rewrite the affiliate link?
2. as we're making commission by the technology so call session tracking, how can we avoid the plug-in rewrite our links session? (I think it is unfair competition in the affiliate market), any scripts applicable?

Legal? Depends on which side of the argument you're on. ;-)

The best way to fight it, is to not promote merchants/advertisers that accept affiliations with these companies/apps.

For more info, try an SE search for theftware or scumware.

There are some scripts that will deny access to your site if the user has scumware installed and redirect them to a page that explains scumware and how to get rid of it. I'm thinking of implementing one of them myself but I'm afraid it will slow my site down too much for users that don't have scumware because it will perform the check before loading the page.

I sent an email to CJ regarding the dirty trick of the plug-in, CJ reply me said the plug-in is legal to use their own promote method. Damn!
Actually, I don't think the affiliate market is an fair game, we just watching the money goes into the sneaker's pocket.

When it comes to $$, not too much is fair game on the internet. However you do have a choice as to switch merchants, or drop the one that is using the dirty tactics.

Anybody has idea how to protect the affiliate links?
Creat a php file named myredirect.php with the following:
<?
header("location: affiliatelink");
?>

But after the vistor click the link [mysite...] the affiliatelink is still showing on the address bar of the browser, what I need to do is to keep mysite url in the address bar, any idea?
