Irregular updates?

I am seeing certain patterns in my Amazon.com sales. Usually they are very high at the beginning of the month, decreasing as the months continues. Also it happens, that on some days, I sell very little and on other days far more, though visitor statistics remain the same. There are periods, when I sell very little during a hole week, or where sold products get listed only on odd days?

Is this due to the shopping behaviour of my visitors, or due to Amazon shipping / accounting / etc reasons?

Unfortunately, I am not selling enough to determine it by myself. May be someone who is not as much affected by this, can reply!

Thanks for your help,

Chaos is inherent in the system :) Only when you reach a certain level of traffic, etc - do the patterns emerge, if ever.

Start of the month - people get paid, go on shopping sprees, etc - could be part of it.

"I just got my check! Now, I can go shop for that book I always wanted..." etc.

My Amazon sales are similar. On average, I sell around only 40-50 items per month (my site just isn't a book site). But, almost like clockwork, I'll go days without sales and decent traffic, then get a low traffic day with a bunch of sales. I have good conversion rates at Amazon (average around 6% using ASIN links), and that has held steady for the past 6 months. But tracking things on a daily basis - sometimes its better to not check your stats everyday - gets rid of that empty feeling when you see no sales for multiple days!

jimh009, I am feeling the same way!

It would be nice, though, if Amazon sent the daily statistics once they are updated. It is really annoying, checking the statistics, may be seeing still the results from yesterday, thus checking the statistics later on again, and seeing no sales!

I really don't think Amazon stats can be right.

There are days I'll sell 0 items, then a day I'll sell 20. I do sell on average twice as much during the weekend as the week, which is expected on my sites. However, when I look through all the weekday logs, every day is similiar. I've run an 8% conversion on ASIN for over a year, and an overall conversion from all linking types around 7%.

I've tried to figure out how Amazon counts items and sales and have not had any luck at all. I really don't even use any Amazon stats anymore except items ordered, money made, and linking conversion rates.
