Shopping affiliate sites

Does anyone use a strategy?

I've recently seen some posts from people with general shopping/coupons sites that make money through affiliate links. They say they are making money but I can't believe it. Their sites are targeted to any keywords yet the shear volume, they say, of pages on their site gets great search engine results. I'd like to hear from people who have these kind of sites. Is this true? And is there really some money to be made with these kind of sites. Thanks.

Hi spikedo55,

I do make some money from affiliate sites, however, it's not enough to retire on. I only do it to add relevant content and services to my site.

I've noticed that a lot of the people on a certain other affiliate forum brag quite a bit about making a bazillion dollars a year with nothing but general mall sites with affiliate links. However, when you look at their sites, some of them are amaturish looking sites that are not optimized, usually no higher than PR4, often PR0 or gray bar, with misaligned columns and typos. It's hard to imagine sites like that generating a lot of puchases.

I'm not sure if the site owners are lying about how much they make, those aren't their real money making sites, they are just good at Overture and Adwords or there are really onto something.
