I need a refer a friend contest script and info

I want to offer a chance to win a free product for everyone that refers new people to my site.

I have heard of the refer a friend scripts but what about one that also registers them to win a prize?

Does the script actually choose the winner or not? If not, how to I choose a winner fairly.

We ran a contest to win some t-shirts a couple of years ago. About 300 people entered the contest. We chose the winners the old fashioned way, printed out all the names and picked them out of a hat.

There's nothing more fair than that and no special software needed!

I run a contest on my site, and I use www.random.org to generate a random number. Every entry is assigned a number in our system manually, then we use the random number generated by www.random.org to select our winner. I don't think you can get much fairer than that.

As far as script to track referrals, why not have the code send you an email as well as sending the e-mail to the person referred? Using a hidden field perhaps in a typical refer a freind script. Haven't tried this, it's just a guess at a solution.
